Latino Changemaker Awarded $2,500

Ramona Armijo donated the money to help in the fight against breast cancer.

Ramona Armijo and Vicki Chandler

Ramona Armijo, left, the 2006 Walden University Latino Changemaker of the Year, presents a check for $2,500 from Walden to Vicki Chandler, executive director of the Ventura County Medical Resource Foundation.

“The generous gift from Walden honors Ramona for her courageous fight against breast cancer. It allows the Ventura County Medical Resource Foundation to help purchase equipment for the mobile mammography van,” Chandler says. “The van will primarily provide Hispanic women with prevention education and breast cancer screenings throughout Ventura County.”

Armijo, a Ph.D. in Education student specializing in Knowledge Management, works for the Ventura County, Calif., public health department.
