Walden Magazine, Advertising Receive National Recognition Walden’s alumni magazine and print advertising received a gold and bronze award, respectively, from the University Continuing Education Association.
Walden’s award winners were entered in the category of higher education institutions with enrollment under 25,000. Other universities honored by UCEA include the University of California-Berkeley Extension, University of Virginia School of Continuing and Professional Studies, Harvard University Summer School, Brigham Young University, and New York University School of Continuing and Professional Studies.
Walden magazine celebrates the accomplishments and dedication to social change of Walden’s diverse and growing alumni community. The inaugural issue covered a range of topics, from early jazz to AIDS in Africa, as well as the experience of 14 teachers at one elementary school pursuing their master’s degrees together.
Shannon Mouton, manager of alumni relations, and Eric Brosch, managing editor, led the development of the first issue of Walden magazine, and Maureen O’Brien, executive director of marketing, directed the creation and implementation of the advertising campaign. Both initiatives were under the leadership of Linda Leftrict, divisional vice president of global marketing. The awards will be presented at a luncheon during the annual UCEA conference April 11–14, 2007, in Vancouver, British Columbia.

In March, the University Continuing Education Association honored Walden University with a Gold UCEA Marketing and Publications Award for the inaugural issue of Walden alumni magazine and a Bronze Award for a print ad from the Real People. Real Change. campaign.
Walden’s print ads also focused on the social change impact of the Walden community. The award-winning ad highlighted the efforts of Ph.D. in Applied Management and Decision Sciences graduate Dr. Sharon Freeman, whose international development work helps women who strive for a voice in society, businesses that struggle to compete globally, and immigrants who seek to succeed economically.
