3 Associate Deans Named Dr. James Stahley, Dr. Ahmed Naumaan and Dr. Gary Kelsey take on additional leadership roles in their schools and colleges. In May, Walden University continued to build its academic infrastructure by appointing three associate deans:
As associate deans, they are responsible for working closely with faculty members and academic advisors to ensure the quality and integrity of their programs
Dr. James Stahley
As a faculty chair, Stahley has been responsible for directing key doctoral programs within the School of Management. Prior to this assignment, he launched the initial M.B.A. program for the school.
He is an acknowledged expert in leadership and organizational change, total quality, Six Sigma, and business excellence. He is a past judge and senior examiner for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, past co-chair of the National Council for Performance Excellence of the Conference Board, a senior member of the American Society of Quality, and a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. As an accomplished facilitator, he has taught and presented courses throughout the world.
In addition to his academic initiatives, Stahley has extensive business and management experience. He held senior executive and line and staff management positions in commercial, defense and international operations, including full profit-and-loss responsibility. He was the senior quality official for Unisys, and, as vice president of engineering, he led more than 1,000 engineers, programmers and professionals in the design and development of large-scale commercial computers.
He earned a Ph.D. in Applied Management and Decision Sciences from Walden, an M.S. in engineering with an emphasis on information theory from the University of Alabama in Huntsville, and a B.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. Dr. Ahmed Naumaan Most recently, Naumaan served as faculty chair for engineering in the NTU College of Engineering and Applied Science where he was responsible for directing master's programs in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science and Systems Engineering.
He worked in industry for more than a decade on projects involving solid-state sensors, integrated optical devices, automated meter reading systems and information technology. He also spent five years with the University of Minnesota–Twin Cities in the department of computer science and engineering before joining Walden.
Naumaan has many publications and conference presentations, and two patents. He organized and chaired a technical committee on semiconductor processing technology for the IEEE CHMT Society and served on the organization committees for several conferences and workshops including the Electronic Components Conference and Workshops on Integrated Optical Technologies. He is also active in community volunteer activities such as speaking to community organizations and participating in community-driven radio and television programs. He serves on the Board of Directors of two nonprofit organizations: The Center for Economic Progress and Karsaz Inc.
Dr. Gary Kelsey
In addition, he is principal consultant for Gary Kelsey and Associates. He has provided nonprofit board development, program development, strategic planning, fundraising, collaboration, team-building, qualitative research, and other organizational development assistance and training to more than 250 nonprofit, philanthropic, education and government organizations.
Kelsey has been a faculty member at Saint Mary's University of Minnesota where he was director of the Master of Arts in Philanthropy and Development program and the Health and Human Services Administration program. He has also held adjunct faculty roles at Concordia University and the University of St. Thomas.
Kelsey has 29 years’ experience within the nonprofit, government and education sectors, serving in such positions as community organizer, program director, grants manager, administrator, senior planner and executive director.
He holds a B.A. in social work from St. Cloud State University and an M.A. in human and health service administration from Saint Mary’s. In 2001, he completed a Doctor of Education in leadership from Saint Mary’s.
