New Librarians to Upgrade Services Their goal is to improve access to more information resources. ![]() Susanna Davidsen With the help of Susanna Davidsen, the new director of library services, the Walden University Library is poised to significantly upgrade its services to students and faculty. Davidsen’s mandate, she says, is to “further build a world-class digital library for Walden. The goal is to make the students’ search of library materials more user-friendly.”
Davidsen, an award-winning information technology leader, is an ideal candidate for the task. She created the Michigan Electronic Library—one of the first Internet libraries—in 1992. Her 24 years of experience in the field includes positions in academia and in business. She has co-authored a book on user-friendly Web site design and speaks nationally on topics relating to libraries and the Internet. Davidsen received her Master of Library Sciences from the University of Michigan School of Information where she also served as an adjunct lecturer.
The enhanced library will include more full-text journals and e-books so that students will have direct access to a greater range of resources for their coursework. Davidsen notes that the library will also “help bring Walden to the attention of the library community—it will give us greater visibility.”
Information Literacy Services
Hajder’s primary responsibilities will be maintaining Walden’s library databases and providing information literacy services—that is, helping to determine the credibility of online resources. In the latter role, she will assist faculty with information literacy questions and course content module development as it relates to library and Internet resources, helping to ensure that Walden students have access to the most accurate and timely information.
