    Nexus: Laureate International Universities news

Walden Names New President

Jonathan Kaplan, J.D., has served as interim president for three months and has been a leader at Walden for five years.

In September, the Walden University Board of Directors announced that Jonathan A. Kaplan, J.D., had been selected to serve as president of Walden, effective at the time of the announcement.

Kaplan assumes the role in addition to his ongoing responsibilities as Laureate Online Education’s chief operating officer for North America and South America. Kaplan brings a global perspective to the presidency that will spur the internationalization of Walden and its programs in the years ahead.

“During his five years in our organization, Mr. Kaplan has proved himself to be a strong leader committed to Walden University, our students and our mission of effecting positive social change. The Walden University Board of Directors has expressed its utmost confidence in his selection,” said Paula R. Singer, chief executive officer and chair of the Board of Directors, Walden University.

Kaplan has had a distinguished academic and professional career. He graduated cum laude from Harvard College with a Bachelor of Arts in government. He has held senior positions in public policy and government at the local, state and federal levels, capped by serving for three years as an economic policy advisor to President Clinton in the White House. Kaplan received his Juris Doctor degree from Boston University School of Law, where he served as an editor of the Boston University Law Review. He later practiced law as an associate at Covington & Burling, a leading international law firm based in Washington, D.C.
