Fellowship in Research and Applications for Social Change Ph.D. in Psychology student Denise Alvarado will use her research funding to measure quality of life in Native American populations. Each year, Walden University awards a Fellowship in Research and Applications for Social Change to a doctoral or master’s student or faculty member. The fellowship, of up to $10,000, supports research endeavors reflective of the university’s mission and determination to uniquely effect positive social change worldwide.

Title of Study: “The Native American Wellness Scale (NAWS): The Development of an Intertribal Quality of Life Measure for Native American and Indigenous Populations"
Purpose of Study: Develop a culturally appropriate quality-of-life instrument for use among Native American populations—called the Native American Wellness Scale (NAWS)—in order to provide an important basis for the development of optimum interventions, targeting resources, and developing the appropriate blend of services needed for individuals and their families, thus reducing disparities in health and mental health care.
