In the News

Members of the Walden community are making news.

“Don’t be afraid to ask for help, whether it’s help at work, help with the family or with school.”

Barb Scherer, an M.S. program in Nursing student, offering advice to prospective students in an AOL.com Online Campus article in September. A mother of three, she works full time at the Akron General Medical Center in Ohio, where she has received a promotion and salary increase since starting the Walden program.

“My husband had to step up and take over the household duties. The whole family supported me when I decided to get my degrees, and I couldn’t have done it without them.”

Danyell Weaver, a Ph.D. in Applied Management and Decision Sciences student specializing in Finance, quoted in the Batesville (Arkansas) Daily Guard. Weaver was recently hired as an economics instructor at Lyon College.

“There is a lack of diversity, insufficient Hispanic, Asian and African-American nurses, and universities could make an effort to improve this situation.”

Dr. Marion Anema, faculty chair of Walden’s M.S. program in Nursing, quoted in Rumbo, a Spanish-language Houston newspaper, in August. Student Susan Sonnier was also mentioned.
