Each month the Research Center features funding opportunities and provides links to more information. Many of these may not apply to this year’s studies, but may be a better fit in later years of your academic career. Student researchers may use the form located at www.waldenu.edu/grants to request a personal grant search.
The Tech Museum Awards
These awards seek to showcase the stories and reward the accomplishments of people all over the world who are profoundly improving the human condition through the use of technology. Each year, candidates—individuals, for-profit companies and not-for-profit organizations—are nominated and then invited to submit applications. Awards are presented in five categories: health, education, environment, economic development and equality. Five laureates in each category are honored, and one laureate per category receives $50,000. The 2007 nomination deadline is March 26, and the application deadline is April 30.
The John W. Gardner Leadership Award
Each year since 1985, Independent Sector has presented the John W. Gardner Leadership Award, named for the American statesman and founding chairman of Independent Sector, to an individual working in the voluntary sector who has advanced the common good by building, mobilizing and unifying people, institutions or causes. Deadline for 2007 nominations is Jan. 31.
The Horowitz Foundation’s Grants
The foundation approves approximately 10 grants each year, in amounts ranging from $3,000 to $5,000 per grant, for work in major areas of the social sciences, including anthropology, area studies, economics, political science, psychology, sociology and urban studies, as well as in newer areas such as evaluation research. Preference will be given to projects that deal with contemporary issues in the social sciences and issues of policy relevance, and to scholars in the initial stages of research. Applications and all required materials must be postmarked no later than Jan. 31 of each year and received no later than Feb. 10.
American Educational Research Association’s Minority Fellowship in Education Research
This program offers doctoral fellowships to enhance the competitiveness of outstanding minority scholars for academic appointments at major research universities by supporting their research and by providing mentoring and guidance toward completion of their doctoral studies. Fellows will receive a one-year stipend of $12,000 and up to $1,000 in travel support to attend the AERA annual meeting. Application deadline for all materials is March 1, 2007.
