Commencement
38th Commencement Congratulations, Graduates!
More than 3,000 Walden University students from 12 countries, including the first M.S. in Mental Health Counseling class, graduated in February at a ceremony in Dallas. Addressing the graduates was Richard W. Riley, the former secretary of education and former South Carolina governor for whom Walden’s Richard W. Riley College of Education and Leadership is named.

Dr. Teresa Bittner was recognized for her outstanding dissertation.

Outstanding Thesis Award
Recognized for his thesis, “An Exploration of the Comorbidity of Substance Abuse Disorder and Depression,” Joseph Angarella was profiled in Walden alumni magazine as a lifelong learner. An M.S. in Psychology graduate, Angarella is enrolled in Walden’s Ph.D. in Psychology program.

In Memoriam
The Walden University community mourns the loss of Ed.D. student Susan West, School of Psychology faculty member Dr. Linda Seligman, and Dr. Alice Brown Smith, who earned a Ph.D. in Education in 1972. Smith's 50-year career spanned teaching in elementary schools in rural Mississippi to her retirement as professor from Grambling State University in Louisiana.
