In Memoriam: Education Student, Alumnus Dr. Harold C. Scholle earned his doctorate in 1976, and student Andrea J. McAllister was pursuing an Ed.D. The Walden University community mourns the loss of Dr. Harold C. Scholle, who earned his doctorate in 1976, and of Ed.D. student Andrea J. McAllister, who was three months from earning her degree. Scholle, a longtime Illinois school superintendent, held three advanced degrees and served as a state director of membership for Lions Clubs International. McAllister taught kindergarten in Conyers, Ga.
Andrea J. McAllister, 58, a student in Walden University’s Doctor of Education program, died June 21. A Conyers, Ga., resident, McAllister taught kindergarten at Pine Street Elementary School in Conyers and was three months from earning her Ed.D. at Walden. She graduated from East Atlanta High School and earned a degree in English from Georgia State University and a master’s degree from Brenau University.
Harold C. Scholle, 80, former superintendent of Yorkville (Ill.) School District 11, died June 30. He served as the district 11 superintendent from 1978 to 1986 and as a state director of membership for Lions Clubs International; he was also a longtime member of the Northwestern Illinois Area Agency on Aging.
He led the charge to secure game farm property via state lease for 99 years for $1 for his school district, providing land on which to establish football and other athletic fields, a public library and a police station.
Scholle graduated from Taft High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Northern Illinois University in 1948. He earned his master’s degree in education from Washington State University in 1951, taught physics at the Naval Academy Preparatory School in Annapolis, Md., as well as in southern Illinois and at York Community High School in Elmhurst, Ill., and enlisted in the Navy and was on active duty from 1953 to 1955. He remained in the Navy Reserve until 1987. He coached football at Elmhurst College.
In 1963, Scholle earned a Master of Business Administration from Northwestern University, and he served as assistant principal at Mann High School in Gary, Ill., for four years. He earned his advanced certificate in education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and was named assistant superintendent of schools in Lockport, Ill., in 1968 before becoming superintendent. In 1972, he began to serve as superintendent of schools in Elmwood Park.
Scholle earned his doctorate from Walden University in 1976. He also wrote the humorous book, Getting Older, donating all proceeds to the area Agency on Aging.
