Rt. Hon. Lord Mark Malloch-Brown, Britain’s Minister of State for Africa, Asia and the U.N. in the Foreign & Commonwealth Office, and also a former deputy secretary-general of the United Nations, received an honorary degree at the commencement ceremony and delivered the commencement address. He focused on the international impact and importance of the growth of higher education. “We stand on the cusp of a revolution as consequential as any of our times—a great leap in global educational opportunity,” he said.
