Extraordinary Faculty Awards Walden honored Dr. Bethe Hagens, in the School of Public Policy and Administration; Dr. Rebecca Jobe, in the College of Social, Behavioral, and Health Sciences; and Dr. MaryFriend Shepard, in the College of Education. The Board of Directors established the Extraordinary Faculty Award to be conferred annually upon Walden University faculty members who demonstrate the university’s core values of quality, integrity and student-centeredness. This year Walden chose three faculty members for the recognition.
The extraordinary faculty for 2007 are Dr. Bethe Hagens, in the School of Public Policy and Administration; Dr. Rebecca Jobe, in the College of Social, Behavioral, and Health Sciences; and Dr. MaryFriend Shepard, in the College of Education.
School of Public Policy and Administration: Dr. Bethe Hagens
“Dr. Hagens listens to everyone's viewpoint and tries to see the individual over the student," Cook says.
College of Social, Behavioral and Health Sciences: Dr. Rebecca Jobe
Dr. Rebecca Jobe, assistant dean for student success in the College of Social, Behavioral, and Health Sciences, was nominated for the award by Walden Ph.D. in Psychology student Michelle Watson.
“She has taught me to think in new ways, challenging me to go further than I could have done on my own,” Watson says. She adds, “Dr. Jobe has given of herself in ways that have been an investment in me personally, with the goal of inspiring me for my future.”
College of Education: Dr. MaryFriend Shepard
Dr. MaryFriend Shepard, director of the College of Education’s Educational Technology Ph.D. specialization, was nominated by several of her students for the support and guidance she provides with Knowledge Area Modules (KAMs).
“The KAM process is unique to Walden and is the process from which I have gained unique levels of understanding about topics that interest me. No other university offers such a student-oriented approach, and it is one for which I am sincerely appreciative,” says Heidi Evans, a Ph.D. in Education student.
