Dual degree student Cesar Barron at the Universidad del Valle de México (UVM), Hermosillo campus, met U.S. Ambassador to Mexico Antonio O. Garza Jr. in mid-October and discussed migration, violence and commerce.
Calling it a “unique and unforgettable” opportunity, Barron said he appreciated that “an important person expressed an opinion about personal things.” Barron said Garza gave him this advice: “We have to always have a goal and motivation to achieve our objectives.”
Ambassador Garza—who leads one of the largest diplomatic missions in the world—visited Hermosillo, Sonora, to unveil the new offices of the Consulate General of the United States. He also asked to meet with five top-performing students from different universities in Hermosillo.

Barron and the group participated in the unveiling ceremony of the new offices with the governor of Sonora, the mayor of Hermosillo and U.S Consul General John David Breidenstine. Afterwards, they spent 45 minutes in a coffee house with Garza.
“We went to a café with the ambassador and the consul. We talked about migration, violence, commerce and diplomatic relations between the two countries, but all of these in confidence and [in an] informal way,” Barron said. “Also, we talked about personal things such as our goals, ambitions and how are we going to achieve them.”
Dual Degree Program
Walden University and UVM offer a Dual Degree Program to students as part of Walden’s increasing focus as a global university. Walden has students enrolled from more than 70 countries worldwide, and in conjunction with UVM, offers a Bachelor of Science Dual Degree Program. Through this partnership, students in UVM’s School of Administration and Economics on several campuses may obtain a United States degree without ever leaving the country.
The dual degree consists of UVM’s Administration and Economics “licenciatura” degree and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Walden.
To fulfill both universities’ degree requirements, UVM students must take courses from UVM at the same time as they take online courses from Walden. Both programs may be completed in nine semesters.
Both universities are part of Laureate International Universities global network of accredited universities.
Walden University has also opened the Bachelor of Science Dual Degree Program to Universidad Interamericana de Costa Rica in Costa Rica and Universidad Latinamericana de Ciencia y Tecnología in Panama, which are also part of Laureate International Universities.
Barron plans to graduate with his dual degree in the summer of 2009.
