Message from the President A Martin Luther King Jr. Day message from President Jonathan Kaplan. Walden University will be closed on Monday, Jan. 19, for the federal holiday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
In 1994, Congress created the King Day of Service to transform the holiday into a National Day of Community Service. So for many, this is not just a day “off” but a day “on” and an opportunity to effect positive social change through community service. You can read more about the King Day of Service at www.mlkday.gov, and you can find information on volunteer opportunities at www.usaservice.org.
By serving your community on Monday, you’ll be advancing Walden’s mission, just as so many of you did in October on our third National Day of Service. You will also be honoring Dr. King’s legacy on his 80th birthday during a truly historic week.
As we pause to reflect on this day honoring Dr. King’s social change leadership, please know that while Walden is formally closed on Monday, the following Walden student support departments will still be available:
You can reach both teams by calling 1-800-WALDENU (1-800-925-3368) or by submitting a quick request form through the “Write Us” link on the Support tab of your myWalden page.
Thank you for your commitment to education and your dedication to service.
Jonathan A. Kaplan
