Dr. Elaine Tompary, an M.S. in Mental Health Counseling student, with Mark Zelman, Jill Raymond, Paul Holdaway and Mary Lou Mulvihill Prentice Hall, 2009
This book presents the basic principles of human disease, organized by human organ system. It provides practical information for both health career and nonprofessional readers, unlike other books, which are generally too high level or specialized for this purpose. New to this edition are recent diagnostic tests and lab procedures; enhanced coverage in treatment and diagnostic sections in disorders to include common treatments and general pharmaceutical options; increased coverage of disease statistics, prevalencies, and risk factors for diseases and conditions; the addition of prevention and aging to the Diseases at a Glance table at the end of each chapter; and a new page at the end of each chapter that walks readers through the multimedia resources available for each chapter.
The War Within: Exploring Marital Conflicts in the Military Craig A. Ganster, Ph.D. in Human Services graduate
Narrad Beharry, Ph.D. in Public Health student PublishAmerica, 2008
This story is based on the author's son, Aryan Beharry, who at nine months of age had to have a liver transplant due to biliary atresia, a condition caused by the narrowing and restriction of the bile ducts. Bile ducts drain bile from the liver, which prevents toxification. The story covers his birth and the daunting circumstances of his condition during his early years leading up to the present. It also goes into the actual interactions with his physicians from the time of the liver transplant through stages of triumphs, problems and accomplishments. The documented steps are also meant as an inspiration to other parents or adults in similar situations, and it shows the possible scenarios that could be followed to deal with such a circumstance. Last, but certainly noteworthy, it gives an idea of the type of sacrifices that one must make to overcome the adversities associated with a life-threatening medical problem.
