New Program Prepares Students for Criminal Justice Field B.S. in Criminal Justice program starts in July. Walden University is now offering a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice program to help students prepare for entry-level, mid-career or higher-level positions in a variety of criminal justice settings, including law enforcement, the courts, corrections, homeland security and social services. The program is designed to help students develop critical-thinking skills that they can use in criminal justice organizations at the local, state, federal or international level.
“As a former community corrections officer, police officer and county manager who oversaw the fiscal operations of a sheriff’s department, I can attest that the professionalization of the field of criminal justice is of paramount importance to better serve and protect citizens worldwide,” said Matthew Collins, a faculty member in the new program. “My firsthand experience in the criminal justice field combined with my knowledge of public policy theory will help guide students as they enter and become leaders in the field.”
Students can choose from five concentrations:
Courses cover exciting topics and current challenges facing the criminal justice profession today, such as drugs, gangs, and organized crime; weapons of mass destruction; computer forensics; and profiling serial and mass murderers. Plus, students will have the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the crime assessment process through lifelike, computer-generated scenarios of crime scenes.
