New Media Communication Technologies Concentration

B.S. in Computer Information Systems program offers focus on emerging area.

Walden University is now offering a new concentration in its B.S. in Computer Information Systems program: New Media Communication Technologies.

Students can study ways to use the latest media technologies to more effectively share information and knowledge with audiences throughout the world through the New Media Communication Technologies area of focus. This new concentration will help prepare students to

  • Expand their ability to effectively reach a global market.
  • Understand computer-mediated communications and select technology approaches and tools for specific applications.
  • Examine the Web 2.0 phenomenon and analyze the properties of social networks, special interest communications, and innovative incentive systems.
  • Develop a conceptual technology prototype to enhance mass communication.

“Technological advances have dramatically changed the ways we interact, communicate, and connect with one another,” said Wanda Gravett, Ph.D., associate dean of Walden’s School of Management. “Through this new concentration, students can gain critical experience working with the latest technologies to reach and engage global audiences and to help gain significant communication advantages for their organizations and for themselves.”

The latest offering complements six other concentrations in the B.S. in Computer Information Systems program, including Healthcare Informatics, Human Computer Interaction, Information Systems Management, Information Systems Security, Online Work and Communities, and a Self-Designed option.
