Walden Updates M.S. in Education with Specialization in Science Enhancements address new standards and demands in science education. As the demand for scientists and engineers grows so does the need for U.S. students to remain competitive in science knowledge and skills. Walden University has enhanced the M.S. in Education with a specialization in Science (Gr. K–8) to help teachers inspire and motivate the next generation of science learners. “Walden is updating and revising this specialization because we are committed to helping teachers bring science to life for their students,” said Victoria Reid, vice president of The Richard W. Riley College of Education and Leadership. “It is estimated that up to 30 percent of our nation’s math and science teachers will be nearing retirement over the next decade.* We believe specializations like this one will help more teachers effectively teach science in today’s classroom.” Blending Content with Pedagogy The newly enhanced specialization aligns with the five core propositions of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS), the National Science Education Standards (NSES), and the standards of the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA). It features the latest research and technology in science education. The curriculum blends content knowledge with pedagogy so teachers will learn science the same way they will teach subject matter in the classroom, with a focus on hands-on, inquiry-based learning.
