Library Adds New Resources

New databases, webinars and social networking features keep students informed.

The Walden University Library has added new services to enhance the quality of resources available to every Walden student.

Research Resources
Walden’s library collection is now linked to Google Scholar, an academic citation search engine. Students can set their search preferences to include the Walden University Library and search for books in the Walden collection directly through Google Scholar.

Several new social science electronic resources have been added to the library’s database, including Science Direct, Berkeley Electronic Press and a new information technology database, InfoSci Journals. An e-Reference partnership with Sage now allows students across disciplines to access hundreds of encyclopedias.

As for existing research databases, Director of Library Services Sue Davidsen highly recommends the ebrary collection to students who have not used it before. “Students may not know that with ebooks they have the ability to highlight, take notes and access citations, just like a traditional book,” Davidsen says.

Increased Social Networking
“Over the past few years, there has been a shift in what students want from us and what students expect from us,” Davidsen says. “That shift is toward social networking.”

Updated at least twice a week, the library’s blog, provides students with library news, research tips and research-related articles. In April, the library launched a webinar series offered to new and current students at the beginning of each academic quarter. Walden Library’s Facebook page keeps members informed about upcoming events.

In the coming months, students can look forward to the library adding the reference database LexisNexis.
