Christine Todd Whitman to Speak at Minneapolis Residency Former governor and EPA administrator will discuss current events, political leadership and the environment.
![]() Christine Todd Whitman Whitman’s Government Service Whitman was the first woman elected governor of New Jersey and served from 1994 to 2001. In 2001, Whitman joined the cabinet of President George W. Bush as administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency. Today, Whitman is the president of the Whitman Strategy Group, a consulting firm that specializes in sustainability, government relations, energy and environmental issues. Whitman also serves as the co-chair of the Republican Leadership Council, an organization that supports fiscally conservative, socially tolerant candidates in an effort to reclaim the word “Republican.” Whitman’s book, It’s My Party Too: The Battle for the Heart of the GOP and the Future of America is a New York Times best seller. Whitman has been a strong advocate for bipartisanship throughout her political career. In her plenary address, Whitman will discuss the current political climate, highlight damage done by years of severe partisanship and offer solutions for changing the nature of how America conducts its political discourse. “Perspectives on the World” Series Walden’s "Perspectives on the World" series brings diverse global views to the Walden community. Past speakers include Dr. Mark Milliron, an author, speaker and consultant known for exploring leadership development, future trends, learning strategies and the human side of technological change. Milliron spoke in March 2009 in Lansdowne, Va. Donna Brazile, the nationally acclaimed political strategist and commentator and chair of the Voting Rights Institute, spoke at Walden’s commencement in Dallas, Texas, in January 2009.
