Read New Issue of Walden Alumni Magazine Online

The latest issue includes articles on getting published, the emergence of the transgender professional and how to get a small business loan in tough economic times.

In July 2009, Walden University published the seventh issue of its award-winning Walden alumni magazine.

The cover story, “Five Ways to Publish Your Book,” is a practical guide to determining which type of publishing best suits one’s research. Standard practices of trade, textbook, scholarly, niche and self-publishing are compared, and published Walden authors offer tips from their own experiences.

“The Transgender Professional” examines the challenges that transgender individuals face negotiating their professional spheres. In the article, Walden faculty, students and staff share personal stories and discuss how organizations can create equal, safe and supportive workplaces.

In “Faculty Insights,” recipients of the 2009 Presidential Award for Faculty Excellence answer questions about preparing Walden students for careers in mental health. In “Meet the Faculty,” Dr. Sara Torres, associate dean of the School of Nursing in Walden’s College of Health Sciences, discusses her research on domestic violence.

In “Alumni Insights,” three Walden alumni offer practical tips in their areas of expertise.

There are also “Lifelong Learners” articles about graduates who have returned to Walden for a second degree:

  • Laura Ybarra, who earned a Master of Science in Nursing and is now pursuing a Master of Public Health
  • Michael Cox, who earned an M.S. in Psychology and is now pursuing a Ph.D. in Psychology
