New Post-Master’s Program Prepares Students for Principal Licensure

Ed.S. in Educational Leadership and Administration curriculum focuses on current challenges in education.


Walden University’s new Ed.S. in Educational Leadership and Administration (Principal Preparation) helps students gain the knowledge, skills, dispositions and experiences to become exemplary school principals and administrators.

 

Approved by the Minnesota Board of School Administrators, the program’s curriculum focuses on developing professionals who can evaluate and improve instructional programs, develop personnel, involve stakeholders in creating a shared strategic vision, and communicate and collaborate both internally and externally in order to provide safe, secure and effective learning environments.

 

“Walden’s Ed.S. in Educational Leadership and Administration is preparing the next generation of P–12 school administrators and principals to truly impact the future success of our nation’s education system,” said Dr. Kate Steffens, dean of Walden’s Richard W. Riley College of Education and Leadership. “Graduates of the program are well equipped to promote the success of every student and guide other professionals in the pursuit of excellence in education.”

 

The Ed.S. in Educational Leadership and Administration program can lead to P–12 principal licensure in Minnesota and includes multiple components, which are delivered through a variety of modalities, including Courses cover exciting topics and current challenges facing educators, such as influencing the quality of teaching, communication and collaboration, diversity, school policy and law, strengthening schools through the use of data, resources, effective learning environments, leading curriculum initiatives, and professional development.

The award offers a 15 percent tuition-savings when you enroll in the Ed.S. in Educational Leadership and Administration (Principal Preparation) program for the January 2010 start date. *The total award amount is dependent upon each student's transfer of credit and prior learning assessment totals. This award cannot be combined with any other Walden scholarship or tuition reduction offer. Not valid for Tennessee residents. Award, tuition and fees are for January 2010 start date and are subject to change. Students deferring to a start date outside of January 2010 will not be eligible for the offer.

 

Walden University cannot guarantee that completion of coursework or any degree-level program (bachelor’s, master’s, education specialist, or doctorate) will lead to educator licensure, certification, or endorsement. Walden does offer some Minnesota state–approved programs. While it remains the prospective student’s responsibility to comply with state requirements, a Walden enrollment advisor can provide generalized state–specific information. Prospective Alabama students: Contact the Teacher Education and Certification Division of the Alabama State Department of Education at 1-334-242-9935 or www.alsde.edu to verify that these programs qualify for teacher certification, endorsement, and/or salary benefits.

 

Prospective Washington state students are advised to contact the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction at 1-360-725-6320 or prof.educ@k12.wa.us to determine whether Walden’s programs in the field of education are approved for teacher certification or endorsements in Washington state. Additionally, teachers are advised to contact their individual school district as to whether this program may qualify for salary advancement.
